1. Conceptual outline of the course.
This course is designed to explain and demonstrate
the principles behind the development on stretched canvas of works
painted in acrylic by brush and other application methods including the
airbrush. See

2. Practical outline of the course.
During the course the techniques, materials and tools required
for painting in acrylic will be explained and demonstrated and
participants will undertake a painting utilising these techniques
materials and tools.
3. Course content.
- Choosing
canvas

- Stretching the
canvas
[ a stretched and primed canvas of their
- Acrylic
primer
[ chosen size (see Note 1 below)
- Developing the concept and drawing the painting outline
- Transcribing the drawing to the canvas
- Choosing paint
- Choosing mediums
- Choosing masking tape if appropriate
- Basic colour theory
- Mixing paint
- Application of masking tape where appropriate
- Application of paint
- Painting sequences
- Finishing techniques.
3 Course outcomes.
- Participants will learn the types of materials suited to
acrylic painting;
- They will also learn the techniques for
- preparing a suitable canvas;
- transcribing a drawing to the canvas;
- mixing acrylic paint to the required consistency;
- applying the paint to the canvas;
- making corrections;
- reconditioning paintings over time;
- Participants will produce a painting on canvas of a chosen
size up to 1500mm x 1000mm. Note 1 In order to make suitable
progress in the allotted time participants will be asked to decide
beforehand what type of painting they wish to work on during the
day. A canvas prepared by the tutor, with the appropriate
background colour, will be ready for their use at the start of the day.
4.Materials
All materials will be provided for individual tuition.
5.Course Duration and Cost.
The course is designed to be completed in one day from 10am to 4pm. The
cost is $375 including all materials for individual tuition.
Group classes can be arranged.
6. Other matters.
Participants should wear clothing
suitable for messy activity. Where appropriate they should try to
bring concept drawings to the course….and their lunch.
